FOXBOROUGH, MASSACHUSETTS (VINnews)-The New England Revolution on Monday strongly condemned what the club described as antisemitic and discriminatory abuse directed at forward Dor Turgeman by CF Montreal supporters during Saturday’s Major League Soccer match.

Turgeman, an Israeli striker, was targeted after scoring in the 35th minute of a 2-2 draw at Saputo Stadium in Montreal, the Revolution said. The club immediately reported the incident to MLS and said it has fully supported the league’s investigation.

“We appreciate MLS’ swift response and commitment to addressing incidents of discrimination,” the Revolution said in a statement. “We are hopeful that those responsible will be held accountable for their unacceptable actions.”

The club added that there is “zero tolerance for abuse, harassment, or discrimination in our game” and that such behavior must be unequivocally condemned. “The entire Revolution organization stands with Dor,” the statement said. “No player should ever be subjected to abuse because of their race, ethnicity, religion, or identity.”

“Antisemitism and all forms of hate have no place in our sport, our stadiums, or our communities,” the Revolution said.

MLS confirmed it is investigating “reported antisemitic and discriminatory language” from fans directed at Turgeman. The league said it has spoken with both clubs and stated that “hateful language has no place in our league or our sport.”

CF Montreal said it does not tolerate discrimination or hateful behavior and is working with MLS and the Revolution to establish the facts and take necessary action.

Reports from the match included claims that some fans chanted “Death to Israel” and directed other insults at Turgeman. Video of his goal celebration showed him cupping his hand to his ear toward the home supporters’ section.
