An IDF soldier undergoing training at the Chashmonaim Chareidi Brigade’s training base in the Jordan Valley was seriously wounded by accidental gunfire at the base on Tuesday evening.

He was evacuated to a hospital for medical treatment, and his family was notified.

According to initial suspicions, the incident occurred when three soldiers were engaging in horseplay with a weapon and competing to see who could cock his rifle the fastest.

According to the IDF’s preliminary investigation, one of the soldiers inserted a magazine into his rifle, disengaged the safety, and pulled the trigger. The round struck another soldier, seriously wounding him.

The IDF Spokesperson said in an official statement: “Following the incident, the Military Police Criminal Investigation Division has launched an investigation. Upon its conclusion, the findings will be forwarded to the Military Advocate General’s Corps for review.”
