Arson Bomb Squad Detectives report the details of a Suspicious Item that occurred on Wednesday, August 5th at 10:53 am in Bethpage.

According to detectives, a female, 60, was cleaning the basement of her Bethpage residence and found a possible explosive device.

Responding officers secured the scene and notified Nassau County Emergency Services Unit and Arson Bomb Squad Detectives. Arson Bomb Squad Detectives deemed the item to potentially be a WWII style grenade and secured the item prior to removing it.

The device was removed to a safe location and destroyed.

Detectives determined there is no further risk to the public.
