Israeli police arrested a 25-year-old East Jerusalem resident on Thursday after he allegedly threatened to kill MK Tzvi Succot and sent him photos of weapons and ammunition.

According to police, the suspect allegedly sent Succot a Facebook message stating that he was armed and would kill the lawmaker when he saw him. Police opened an investigation, questioned the suspect, and took a statement from Succot.

Following the threats, the Knesset and Israel Police conducted a security assessment and raised Succot’s threat level to Level 4, increasing his security protection.

Succot’s office said the threats followed a series of visits he made to schools in the Arab sector and his campaign against protection rackets and illegal weapons. The office said multiple threatening messages, including photos of firearms, were received.

Succot praised police for the swift arrest, saying the threats would not deter him from continuing his public mission to strengthen governance and combat violent crime and illegal weapons.
