The first construction contract under President Trump’s Gaza Peace Council has been awarded for a small military support base in southern Gaza that will house an initial contingent of 150 Moroccan troops as part of a proposed international stabilization force.

According to a report by The Guardian, the contract was awarded to Louisiana-based Arkel International, which has previously completed projects for the U.S. government in Iraq and other locations. The agreement has not yet been finalized.

The planned base, measuring roughly 100 by 120 meters, will be located near the Israeli border inside an area currently controlled by the IDF. It will initially consist of tents, cots, chemical toilets, and handwashing stations, with a rapid evacuation route in place if the force comes under attack.

Officials involved in the project said the outpost is intended to serve as the first phase of a much larger base capable of supporting up to 5,000 members of an International Stabilization Force tasked with helping implement future security and governance arrangements in Gaza.

The report said additional contracts are being prepared for facilities supporting the stabilization force and Gaza’s technocratic governing committee. The announcement comes as broader reconstruction plans for Gaza continue to evolve following months of conflict.
