Five months into the U.S. war with Iran, Americans increasingly expect the conflict to bring further instability to the Middle East, while support for the war and President Donald Trump’s handling of it remains weak, according to a new Reuters/Ipsos poll.

Only 35% of respondents said they approve of the war. The survey also found broad concern over its economic consequences, with 54% expecting gasoline prices to worsen and just 15% saying they believe prices will improve.

The poll found that Americans remain deeply uneasy about the direction of the conflict and its broader consequences. Respondents expressed concern that the war could expand, destabilize the region further and impose additional political and economic costs on the United States.

The anxiety extends beyond Iran. Some 58% said they were concerned that the war between Russia and Ukraine would worsen, while 55% expressed concern that China could enter a conflict with Taiwan. Another 48% worried that war could erupt between Russia and a European country other than Ukraine, while 37% said they feared the United States could go to war over Greenland.
