The Aron of an Israeli man who tragically drowned in Cyprus was brought to Israel shortly before Shabbos following an intensive, around-the-clock effort by ZAKA’s International Division.

Yaakov Yisrael Yadid Halevi z”l, 35, drowned in Limassol, Cyprus, early Wednesday morning.

After receiving notification of the tragedy and a request for assistance from the family, ZAKA’s International Division immediately launched a complex operation to complete all necessary procedures with authorities in Cyprus and Israel, with the goal of bringing the niftar to kevurah as quickly as possible.

Baruch Nidam, director of ZAKA’s International Division, said the organization’s teams worked around the clock in a race against time to secure the necessary approvals.

“From the moment we received the report, the division’s teams worked around the clock, in a race against time, to complete all the necessary approvals and bring the aron of the deceased to Israel before Shabbos,” Nidam said. “This was a complex operation requiring coordination between numerous parties in Israel and abroad, but we did everything possible to allow the family to bring their loved one to his final resting place as quickly as possible.”

The operation was carried out through close cooperation with Israel’s Foreign Ministry, Cypriot law enforcement authorities, Interior Ministry Director-General Yisrael Uzan, and with assistance from the Menucha La’ad company.

Their efforts succeeded, and the aron landed in Israel shortly before Shabbos. From the airport, it was transported by a ZAKA ambulance ahead of the levaya and kevurah.

The levaya is scheduled for Motzei Shabbos at 10:30 p.m. at Har HaMenuchos in Yerushalayim.
