AI SPENDING: Google Parent Alphabet Plans Massive $20 Billion To $25 Billion Bond Sale
Alphabet, the parent company of Google, is planning to raise between $20 billion and $25 billion through a major U.S. bond offering as it pours billions into artificial intelligence and computing infrastructure, Reuters reported.
The offering is expected to include several tranches of debt with different maturities and comes as Alphabet dramatically increases spending on the data centers, chips and computing capacity required to develop and operate increasingly powerful AI systems.
Alphabet is competing in an increasingly expensive technology arms race as major companies invest enormous sums to secure the infrastructure needed for the next generation of artificial intelligence products.
Amazon, Meta, Microsoft and Oracle are also ramping up spending on data centers and advanced chips as companies race to expand AI capacity and integrate the technology across their products.
For Google, those investments are expected to support increasingly sophisticated AI features across search, digital assistants, image and video tools and other services.
The scale of the spending has also raised questions among investors about how quickly the enormous investments in AI infrastructure will generate sufficient returns.
Alphabet, however, continues to bet that artificial intelligence will become a central component of virtually every major technology service in the coming years, making the infrastructure buildout critical to maintaining Google’s position in the industry.
