LAWRENCE, NY (August 8, 2026) — Mayor Samuel Nahmias, alongside Village Administrator Gerry Castro, extends a warm thank you to New York State Senator Patricia Canzoneri-Fitzpatrick for visiting the community and for her vital state partnership in securing a $150,000 state grant to help fund past infrastructure enhancements along 878.

Major improvements are actively underway along NY-878 to improve safety, accessibility, and local aesthetics. The overall scope extends throughout the village, stretching from Burnside Avenue toward the Atlantic Beach Bridge. Construction began in early June, with completion expected by October.

Key project components include:

Drainage Improvements: Resetting all catch basins along Route 878 to ensure proper drainage and prevent runoff issues.

Enhanced Accessibility: Removing and replacing sidewalk ramps and median crossings to meet full ADA accessibility standards.

Upcoming Road Resurfacing: Milling and repaving the asphalt surface as part of the final phase of work.

Greenery & Beautification: Planting fresh trees and shrubs along the median to restore and enhance local greenery.

Highlighting the importance of bringing state resources to local communities, NYS Senator Patricia Canzoneri-Fitzpatrick stated: “Here we are on 878 in the Village of Lawrence. Thank you, Mayor Samuel Nahmias for helping us get this project done and improve an area that is in desperate need of improvement. I know the residents are going to be grateful when this section of the road is repaved, and I’m so proud that we brought state dollars to the area.”
