Ocean Parkway Jewish Center will mark a remarkable milestone in its history this Sunday, August 9, 2026, as the congregation celebrates its 100th year with a Hachnosas Sefer Torah, welcoming a new Torah scroll into the shul.

The celebration will bring together generations of members, families, friends, and neighbors for an afternoon of music, dancing, Torah, and celebration - a fitting tribute to a congregation that has served the Jewish community for a full century.

The festivities will begin at 2:30 p.m. with a Torah procession departing from the Tillim family home at 196 Webster Avenue. Accompanied by music, a Torah truck, and a chuppah, participants will proceed toward Ocean Parkway Jewish Center at 550 Ocean Parkway.

Upon arrival at the shul courtyard, the celebration will continue with spirited singing and dancing before the new Sefer Torah is brought inside. The congregation will then hold the Torah's*first public reading in the main shul upstairs.

The day will culminate with a Seudas Mitzvah and celebration dinner in the Ainbinder Room, featuring guest speakers and divrei Torah. 

More than the dedication of a new Torah, Sunday's event will celebrate 100 years of Jewish continuity at Ocean Parkway Jewish Center - a century of tefillah, Torah learning, communal gatherings, lifecycle celebrations, and service to Brooklyn's Jewish community.
