Security Officials Warn Of Explosive Drone Threat From Within Israeli Cities
Israeli security officials are increasingly concerned that terrorist organizations could attempt to launch explosive drones from within Israeli cities, Channel 12 News reported.
According to the report, security officials have identified a significant increase in both the intent and capability of terrorist organizations to deploy explosive drones, including fiber-optic-controlled drones.
Officials warn that the possibility of launching such drones from within Israeli cities presents a complex new challenge unlike those the security establishment has faced in the past.
The threat has been discussed in several security assessments, including one led by Defense Minister Yisrael Katz. According to the report, officials concluded that there is currently no effective operational solution to counter the threat posed by explosive drones.
A security official warned that ordinary drones can be converted into weapons with relative ease. “Buying a drone and putting explosives on it is almost as easy as kicking a ball. The situation is not good right now. There is still a long way to go before we reach an effective solution,” he emphasized.
Channel 12 reporter Amit Segal recently reported that the drone threat has become one of Shin Bet chief Dovid Zini’s primary concerns.
