Two longtime members of the Jackson Township Police Department were honored on Friday, July 31, as fellow officers, family members and friends gathered at Jackson Town Hall for a walkout ceremony marking the retirements of Police Captain Sean Greenberger and Police Officer Louis Notare.

Captain Greenberger, a lifelong Jackson-area resident and 1999 graduate of Jackson Memorial High School, joined the department in August 2001 and graduated from the Ocean County Police Academy in January 2002. He spent much of his early career on patrol, serving as a Field Training Officer before taking on additional roles with the department’s physical training program and Bicycle Patrol Unit.

Greenberger rose through the department’s ranks, becoming a sergeant in 2019, lieutenant in 2022 and captain in March 2025. During his leadership career, he served as Professional Standards Unit Commander and later led both the Special Services and Investigative Services divisions. His career included multiple awards and commendations, including lifesaving, meritorious duty, good conduct and physical fitness honors.

Officer Louis Notare, also a Jackson Memorial High School graduate, began his law enforcement career in Seaside Park before joining the Jackson Township Police Department as a full-time officer in August 2002. He spent nearly his entire career in the Patrol Division before being reassigned to the Special Services Unit in May 2025.

Among the cases Notare was most proud of was a 2004 cyber harassment investigation that developed into a major child sexual abuse case. His initial investigation, working alongside Jackson detectives and the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Computer Crimes Unit, ultimately resulted in the arrest and conviction of a township resident who was sentenced to more than 20 years in prison.

Notare also overcame a significant health challenge during his career, returning to full patrol duty just four and a half months after undergoing open-heart surgery in December 2017.

The Jackson Township Police Department congratulated Greenberger and Notare on the completion of their law enforcement careers and wished both longtime officers well in retirement.
