The Israeli government is set to approve an additional NIS 2.6 billion, approximately $700 million, for urgent Defense Ministry procurement amid intensified fighting and emerging operational needs.

According to the government decision, the funding will be used to purchase military equipment and weaponry urgently required by Israel’s defense establishment. Details of the specific equipment being acquired remain classified for security reasons.

The proposal has already been approved by the Ministerial Committee on Procurement and is being brought before the full government for approval on Sunday.

Security officials said the additional funding is intended to address immediate armament requirements that have emerged as Israeli forces continue operating across multiple fronts.

Under the current funding plan, NIS 1.5 billion will be redirected from money allocated for government interest and commission payments.

Another NIS 1.1 billion will be taken from the operating budgets and financial commitments of government ministries.

However, the government decision provides a mechanism that could reverse the cuts to individual ministries if the 2026 state budget receives final approval from the Knesset.

In that case, the NIS 1.1 billion would instead come from a dedicated budget allocation established under previous government decisions, allowing the ministries to recover the funding currently slated to be cut.

The emergency allocation comes as Israel continues seeking to replenish and expand military stockpiles following sustained combat operations and increased demands on the IDF’s weapons and defense systems.
