In what turned out to be the most posted, most talked-about appearance of the evening, an Iranian immigrant took the microphone at a meeting of the McKinney, Texas, City Council last week to warn the city about the danger of a proposed 5-acre Islamic center in the city.

Identifying himself as “Erisa, a Sharia law survivor from Iran,” he said that “I’m here to tell you this is a dangerous ideology you’re allowing in your country.”

“Every country that is Islamic now, it used to be a Christian country; and we were soft Christians, and we allowed these people to come in, bring their Sharia law into their countries, and slowly kill us off left and right,” he said.

Erisa built his argument by explaining that the first level is “taqiyya,” in which Muslims will lie and say they come in peace. The second level, he argued, is “what’s happening in the U.K. right now, where you have two-tier policing, where you have, like, the blasphemy laws, Islamophobia, racism, all this nonsense that they talk about.”

After slamming the United Kingdom for its political correctness, he concluded with a dire warning: “I’m telling you, this is a bad idea, and you’re going to regret not listening to people like us who lived under Sharia law,” he said.

Many of the approximately 100 speakers voiced similar concerns.

In the end, after hours of heated debate, the council voted 7-0 to approve the building, saying that the Islamic organization met all the zoning and development criteria and the council members were legally bound to approve it.
