Residents and motorists traveling near the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge may hear loud cannon fire Monday and Tuesday as Fort Hamilton holds a military Change of Command Ceremony.

Notify NYC issued an advisory informing the public that ceremonial cannon firings will take place on August 10 and August 11 in the area of Fort Hamilton, located alongside the Brooklyn approach to the Verrazzano Bridge.

The cannon fire is planned and ceremonial and is not related to an emergency.

Fort Hamilton is a U.S. Army installation located in southwest Brooklyn, immediately adjacent to the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge. The surrounding roadways are heavily traveled by Brooklyn residents, including many Boro Parkers who regularly use the bridge while traveling between Brooklyn and Staten Island and points beyond.

The cannon firings are being held in connection with the Fort Hamilton Garrison Change of Command Ceremony, a longstanding military tradition marking the formal transfer of leadership from one commander to another.
