The Trump administration is preparing an executive order that would significantly reshape federal guidance on childhood vaccinations, including a review of which vaccines are administered to children and how they are scheduled, The Washington Post reports.

Under the draft order, the Health Department’s Task Force on Safer Childhood Vaccines would be directed to propose changes within 90 days. The panel would assess the timing and sequencing of core childhood vaccines and recommend adjustments to the existing schedule where appropriate.

The draft also calls for consideration of splitting combination vaccines into separate shots administered at different appointments. In addition, it would direct officials to examine whether childhood vaccines should be recommended on different schedules for boys and girls.

Another provision calls for research into alternatives to aluminum-based vaccine adjuvants, which are ingredients used to help produce an immune response.

The proposed order would also instruct officials to examine whether links between childhood vaccines and autism have been properly studied.
