A bill that would rename the Haverstraw Post Office in honor of longtime Rockland County Clerk Paul Piperato has advanced through the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, moving the measure one step closer to final approval.

The bipartisan legislation, introduced by Congressman Mike Lawler, would designate the United States Postal Service facility at 86 Main Street in Haverstraw as the “Paul Piperato Post Office Building.” The bill previously passed the House of Representatives with bipartisan support in December 2025.

Piperato served more than 30 years in public service, including 15 years as Rockland County Clerk. During his tenure, he worked to modernize county operations, expand online access to county records, and launched the RETURN THE F.A.V.O.R. program benefiting local veterans.

“Paul modernized county government and left a lasting impact on Rockland County through decades of public service,” Lawler said, adding that he was grateful to see the legislation advance and move closer to permanently honoring Piperato’s legacy.

Piperato was also active in numerous organizations across Rockland County and played a leading role in naturalization ceremonies welcoming new American citizens. Following the Senate committee’s approval, the bill will now head to the full Senate for consideration.
