- Thousands attended the “Night Out Against Crime” event yesterday at BlueClaws Stadium in Lakewood. Throughout the evening, police raffled off 40 bicycles. Children who attended received wristbands with numbers printed on them, which were used for the raffle. However, organizers ran out of wristbands early in the evening, leaving children who arrived later without raffle tickets.

- Last night, the Lakewood Planning Board approved an application for a new school on Ridge Avenue that will accommodate up to 160 students.

 The board also stood by its previous approval of the Bais Reuven kamenitz extension, adopting the resolution despite an attorney’s objection that a neighboring property owner within the 200-foot notice radius did not receive proper notice from the township after purchasing the lot from the developer. The board’s response was essentially that the neighbor is welcome to challenge the approval in court and see whether a judge will overturn the board’s decision.

- Bike shop owners in New Jersey reported a drop in e-bike sales ranging from 20% to 90% since New Jersey’s new restrictive and confusing e-bike law took effect on July 19. NJ.com

- Ohel organization won Camp Lavi’s auction in Lakewood, PA but agreed to let the second-place bidder take over. That bidder backed out before the deal became official, leaving Ohel as the winner. Ohel is now working with parents to find another buyer who will keep the camp operating as it is. EJP

- Giyus: Protesters blocked a main highway outside Bnei Brak in response to the police arresting a bochur and handing him over to IDF military police for draft evasion.

- Rav Moshe Hillel Hirsch shlita at event for yeshiva  bocurim in Bet Shemesh “Drastic Change Is Needed Ahead of Rosh Hashanah”. The Rosh Yeshivah said that in light of the gezeiros and challenges facing the Torah world over the past year, everyone must make a serious cheshbon hanefesh ahead of Yom Hadin. He stressed that general kabbolos and superficial chizuk are not enough. To merit a better year, each person must undertake a meaningful and substantial change.

- Flock cameras popping up across New Jersey. A vast network of surveillance cameras has popped up up not all over New Jersey, but across the country. The cameras are automated license plate readers, logging the make, model, and color of passing cars as we traverse the Garden State. Law enforcement agencies say these cameras have become crucial to investigating crimes. But many across New Jersey believe they create a surveillance state, violate privacy and rights and can easily be misused. 

- New Jersey is no longer the “armpit of the nation.”In fact, the Garden State ranks No. 2 among the best states to live in the US, driven by strong scores in safety, healthcare and education, according to a new WalletHub study. The state boasts the lowest crime rate in the country, and ranks high in quality of life, health and education. It also has some of the highest-performing public school districts in the country. - Tesla has recalled 20,349 Model 3 and Model Y vehicles because their low-beam headlights may be too bright and exceed federal limits, potentially creating a safety risk for other drivers. The recall was reported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)
