Members of the William P. Faist Ambulance Corps along with Monsey Fire Department, Dept 7, took part in a joint mass casualty incident training Wednesday evening, giving emergency responders the chance to practice working together during a major emergency.

The hands-on drill was centered around a realistic structure fire scenario involving multiple patients and a fast-moving MCI scene, allowing crews to train under conditions designed to closely resemble a real life emergency.

Members practiced patient triage and treatment, including identifying and prioritizing critical patients while providing care under pressure, as well as command, EMS operations, scene organization, and keeping the overall response coordinated as the exercise unfolded.

The training gave both departments an opportunity to work through the challenges that can come with a large-scale emergency involving numerous patients, while strengthening communication and coordination between local fire and ambulance responders.

Following the drill, members took part in a post-training debrief hosted by the Monsey Fire Department, where they reviewed the response, discussed what worked well, and went over lessons that can be carried into future operations.

The Monsey Fire Department, Department 7, and William P. Faist Ambulance Corps thanked NYUSA Development for providing the space needed to conduct the large-scale training exercise, allowing responders to carry out the MCI training scenario in a realistic setting.
