Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara is seeking to condition continued government funding for Chareidi educational institutions on compliance with a sweeping set of requirements, including the teaching of the full core curriculum, appropriately trained teaching staffs, and cooperation with government oversight and enforcement mechanisms.

In a response submitted Friday to the High Court of Justice over a petition concerning funding for the so-called “first floor” of the Chareidi education networks, Baharav-Miara determined that institutions receiving funding under the “All Children of Israel” principle would have to meet the basic obligations imposed on the networks.

Those conditions include teaching the full core curriculum as established in the official state education program, employing properly trained teachers, fully participating in measurement and assessment programs, cooperating with supervision and enforcement mechanisms, and meeting government reporting requirements.

Significantly, the requirements would not be pushed off to a future school year. They are set to apply beginning with the current academic year, potentially placing immediate pressure on Chareidi institutions that depend on government funding.

The move represents another major confrontation between Baharav-Miara and the Chareidi sector, with the attorney general effectively tying continued public funding to compliance with state educational and oversight standards.

The development comes amid an increasingly heated battle over the relationship between the state and Chareidi education, with funding and government requirements once again becoming a central flashpoint.
