Jared Kushner, President Donald Trump’s special envoy to the Middle East, is expected to meet with senior Hamas officials in Cairo before traveling to Israel for talks with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, according to an Arab media report.

Kushner arrived Sunday at El Alamein International Airport in Egypt as part of renewed American efforts to advance agreements concerning Gaza and strengthen the existing ceasefire.

A Palestinian source told Al Jazeera that Kushner is expected to meet with a Hamas delegation in Cairo, with senior officials from Egypt, Qatar and Turkey also participating. According to the report, Kushner decided to hold the meeting with the Hamas leadership before traveling to Tel Aviv for his meeting with Netanyahu.

The reported talks come as senior Hamas terrorist Khalil al-Hayya, head of the terror group’s political bureau, is also in Cairo for discussions with Egyptian intelligence chief Hassan Rashad.

Hamas said the discussions focused on advancing decisions reached at the Sharm el-Sheikh peace summit and implementing President Trump’s plan for ending the war and rebuilding Gaza.

During the talks, Hamas officials accused Israel of repeatedly violating existing agreements and rejecting elements of the Trump administration’s proposed roadmap.

The diplomatic push comes amid difficulties implementing a 15-point plan developed by Nikolay Mladenov, president of the Trump-established “Board of Peace.”

The proposal reportedly includes transferring Hamas weapons to a Palestinian technocratic committee that would administer Gaza, a framework that has faced opposition from Netanyahu.

Kushner and Mladenov are expected to visit Israel in the coming week as the Trump administration continues efforts to advance its broader Middle East peace initiative, which began with the October 2025 ceasefire.
