A major Orange & Rockland gas main replacement project will begin along College Road in Monsey, bringing an approximately $830,000 investment into the neighborhood’s natural gas infrastructure.

The project, led by Orange and Rockland and its contractor, Precision Pipeline Solutions calls for the replacement of more than 5,000 feet of aging bare steel gas main with new plastic main along College Road, stretching from Smolley Drive to Carlton Road. The work also extends for a small section west along Carlton Road.

According to O&R, the extensive replacement work is aimed at strengthening the area’s natural gas infrastructure and improving the reliability of the gas system for local residents.

As part of the project, crews will also replace nine individual gas services along College Road and another two along Carlton Road. Customers whose services will be affected will be notified in advance to schedule the replacement work.

The project is expected to take approximately five weeks to complete, weather permitting, with construction taking place during the standard business hours specified under the Rockland County permit.

No road closures are planned during the work. Flaggers will be stationed in the construction area to maintain traffic flow and keep as many lanes open as possible while work is taking place.

The contractor will also establish designated work zones and required safety measures as the infrastructure project moves forward.
