President Donald Trump’s envoy Jared Kushner met with senior Hamas leaders in Egypt on Sunday, demanding that the terrorist organization begin taking concrete and verifiable steps toward disarming and surrendering control of the Gaza Strip, according to Axios.

The unusual meeting was attended by Kushner, Board of Peace Director-General Nikolay Mladenov and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair. It marked the first meeting of its kind since the agreement ending the Gaza war was signed last October.

According to a source familiar with the talks who spoke to Axios, the meeting focused on forcing Hamas to fulfill commitments contained in the U.S.-backed roadmap through concrete steps that can be independently verified.

Those demands include maintaining the ceasefire, transferring all governing authority in Gaza to the Palestinian technocratic government, ensuring Hamas has no future role in governing the Strip and carrying out comprehensive disarmament of the terrorist group’s weapons and military infrastructure.

Kushner reportedly made clear that any additional Israeli withdrawals from Gaza would be conditional on Hamas disarming.

The talks also addressed deploying an international stabilization force, accelerating humanitarian assistance and beginning reconstruction efforts while preventing renewed security escalation or the theft and diversion of aid.

Kushner, Mladenov and Blair are expected to travel to Israel on Monday for talks with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu as the White House seeks to advance the next stage of President Trump’s 20-point peace plan.

The visit comes amid significant skepticism within the Netanyahu government over elements of the American proposal and heightened political sensitivity ahead of Israel’s elections in October.
