BETTING SCANDAL: IAF Major Faces Charges Over Polymarket Wagers On Iran, Yemen Strikes
An Israeli Air Force officer with the rank of major is expected to be charged, pending a hearing, with breach of trust after allegedly using Polymarket to place wagers connected to Israeli strikes in Iran and Yemen, N12 reported Sunday.
The case is the latest development in an expanding betting scandal inside the Israeli Air Force. According to the report, the officer in the new case is currently facing only a breach-of-trust allegation, distinguishing it from a separate and significantly more serious case that surfaced earlier this year.
In February, another Israeli Air Force officer was charged with grave security offenses after allegedly exploiting sensitive information for financial gain. That officer was held for several months before later being released under restrictive conditions.
According to the indictment in that case, the officer violated basic secrecy obligations and was prepared to “sell” highly classified security information in exchange for money. Prosecutors alleged that his actions created a real danger to Israeli Air Force pilots and to IDF operational activity, while representing a serious breach of the trust placed in him as part of his military role.
During court proceedings, the officer claimed that “the entire Air Force is involved in betting,” arguing that a desire for excitement and financial profit had driven his conduct. The court responded by calling on senior Air Force officials to examine the broader allegations regarding gambling inside the service.
The court also issued a sharp warning over the alleged phenomenon, stating that personnel serving in one of the IDF’s most sensitive branches are expected to maintain far higher standards of conduct
The latest case now places renewed scrutiny on the use of prediction and betting platforms by personnel who may have access to sensitive operational information, with the major expected to receive a hearing before any final indictment is filed.
