INTERNATIONAL SEARCH: How Israeli Police Tracked Down Missing Mali And Liel Yahalomi Within Days
New details are emerging about the intensive international operation that led Israeli authorities to locate missing Israelis Mali and Liel Yahalomi aboard a bus in Buenos Aires, Argentina, within roughly a week of their disappearance.
The two had traveled through several countries and reportedly avoided using their primary cellphones, significantly complicating efforts to track their movements.
Despite the limited digital trail, investigators from Israel Police’s Lahav 433 unit and Intelligence Division operated around the clock in Israel and overseas, carrying out hundreds of investigative actions in cooperation with Europol and foreign law enforcement agencies.
Their route reportedly took them through several countries, including the Czech Republic, Austria and Germany, before they ultimately reached South America.
Investigators determined that Mali and Liel had obtained replacement phones and had planned their disappearance due to personal circumstances involving financial matters.
Israeli authorities ultimately narrowed the search to Buenos Aires and identified the specific public bus on which the two were traveling.
An Israel Police representative boarded the bus and approached them, identifying himself as Walter, the police representative in South America from Israel Police’s Intelligence Division.
“We were very worried about you,” he told them.
The two were questioned following their discovery and subsequently released after authorities determined there was no suspicion that they had committed a criminal offense.
The operation brought an end to an intensive international search that involved Israeli authorities, Europol and law enforcement agencies across multiple countries.
The speed with which investigators reconstructed the pair’s movements across several countries and ultimately located them on a specific bus in one of South America’s largest cities was described in the report as an extraordinary investigative achievement.
