BDE: Boro Park Mourns Reb Hershel Landau Z”L, Rosh Hakuhol of Shenya and Longtime Proprietor of Landau’s Grocery
The Shenya community and residents across Boro Park are mourning the petirah of Reb Tzvi Aryeh “Hershel” Landa Z”L, the longtime and well-known proprietor of Landau’s Grocery, whose familiar presence and warm personality made him known to generations of local families.
Reb Hershel Z”L, son of Harav Asher Lemel Landa Z”L, was a prominent and beloved member and Rosh Hakuhol of the Shenya kehillah, where he was known as an ehrliche chassidishe Yid devoted to Torah, his kehillah and those around him.
For many in Boro Park, however, Reb Hershel was perhaps best known from Landau’s Grocery, the neighborhood store he operated for years. His work brought him into daily contact with countless residents, turning him into a familiar face far beyond his immediate circle of family and friends.
His passing leaves behind a void among his family, fellow mispallelim, longtime customers and the many people throughout Boro Park who simply knew him as Hershel from Landau’s Grocery.
The levayah is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. today from the Shenya Bais Medrash at 1156 58th Street, followed by kevurah in Kiryas Joel.
Yehi zichro baruch.
