Kushner Asks Herzog: Who Is Going to Win Israel’s Election?

Aug 17, 2026·2 min read

Jared Kushner, President Donald Trump’s special envoy, reportedly sought a detailed briefing on Israel’s upcoming elections during his current visit to the country, asking about Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu’s chances of victory and the possible coalition scenarios that could emerge after Israelis go to the polls.

Kushner arrived in Israel against the backdrop of regional tensions with Iran, the situation in Gaza and the ongoing fighting in Lebanon. But according to a report by Moriah Asraf of Channel 13, Israel’s domestic political landscape was another issue drawing considerable interest behind the scenes.

During a meeting with President Isaac Herzog, Kushner and members of his team reportedly requested an overview and analysis of the Israeli political map ahead of the election.

The American delegation sought information about the current balance of power between the parties, Netanyahu’s prospects of winning another term and the various political alliances that could determine the composition of the next government.

Kushner’s team was also reportedly interested in which parties would be prepared to join forces with one another and what types of governing coalitions could realistically be assembled following the election.

The assessment presented to the American officials was that, at this stage, there is no clear-cut outcome emerging from Israel’s political landscape and the election remains unsettled.

Meanwhile, President Trump himself addressed the possibility of becoming involved in Israel’s election during a conversation Monday with an American reporter.

Despite expectations among some Netanyahu allies — as well as speculation from the prime minister’s political opponents — that Trump could publicly throw his support behind a candidate, the president indicated that he has not yet made such a decision.

“Maybe I’ll support someone; for now, it’s appropriate that I don’t interfere,” Trump said.

Trump’s comments come after considerable speculation across Israel’s political spectrum that he would ultimately make a public endorsement in the campaign. For now, however, the president indicated that such an intervention is not currently planned.
