NO HANDCUFFS ON ISRAEL: Kushner Reveals U.S. Assurances After Netanyahu Talks

Aug 18, 2026·2 min read

After White House adviser Jared Kushner held talks at the White House Monday with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and members of the Board of Peace, he told Fox News that the demilitarization of Gaza could begin within 30 days.

He also said that the administration assured Israel that no reconstruction or rebuilding would begin until the Strip was completely demilitarized and that there would be no restrictions on Israel’s right to act against security threats.

“We could be seeing progress in as little 30 days, hopefully on starting to take some of the weapons out, and hopefully filling in some of the tunnels as well in the next 60 to 90 days,” Kushner said, adding that it could only happen with the cooperation of both sides.

The discussions Monday followed a previous discussion with Hamas leaders in which Kushner made a rare appearance. Hamas leaders said they remained committed to President Donald Trump’s 15-point roadmap, but insisted that Israel had to first fully withdraw, rejecting the roadmap’s requirement that Israel would withdraw from Gaza one demilitarized section at a time.

Israeli officials, on the other hand, clarified that they would not withdraw until complete disarmament was achieved.

The two sides agreed to establish two working groups: one to implement the process of disarmament and demilitarization, which would be completed before reconstruction could begin, and one to take care of clean water, sanitation, and other public health issues.

U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee attended the Monday meeting and described the discussion in a social media post Tuesday as “intense and thoughtful, but respectful,” dismissing speculation of a rift between the two parties.

“Been reading ‘insider scoops’ on meetings today with the Israeli prime minister and U.S. delegation on Gaza,” he wrote on X. “Since I was actually there for HOURS, I can tell you some of these reports are simply fake news. Intense and thoughtful, but respectful. No disagreement on Donald Trump’s plan to disarm Hamas, and they have NO future in Gaza. That’s truly the bottom line. Much of the ‘reporting’ is invented out of thin air.”
