New Jersey is rolling out new Families First EBT cards featuring enhanced security measures aimed at protecting SNAP and Work First New Jersey benefits from fraud.

The new cards include an encrypted chip, tap-to-pay technology, a three-digit security code, and the ability for users to lock and unlock their cards. State officials recommend using the chip or tap feature whenever available rather than swiping the card.

Recipients must activate the new card and create a new PIN after it arrives. Existing SNAP and WFNJ benefits will automatically transfer to the new card, and the current card will be deactivated once the new one is activated.

The old card will expire 60 days after the new card is received. Those who do not activate the new card within 90 days will need to request another replacement card, and fees may apply.

Cards can be activated at NJFamiliesFirst.gov, through the official ConnectEBT mobile app, or by calling EBT Customer Service at 1-800-997-3333.

The ConnectEBT app also allows recipients to check balances, review transaction history, change their PIN, and lock or unlock their EBT card.

Families First cardholders can also continue using the card to receive free or discounted admission at participating New Jersey arts and history organizations through the Families First Discovery Pass program.
