More than 8,000 Optimum customers in the Lakewood area have been without service for a significant portion of the day Tuesday amid a widespread outage.

Customers received a message from Optimum last week advising that the company was upgrading service in the area and warning that customers could experience service disruptions during the work. It is unclear whether Tuesday’s widespread outage is related to those upgrades.

As of Tuesday afternoon, service had not yet been restored for many customers, and there was no estimated time for full restoration.
