Two Unrelated Suspects Arrested During Unexpected Wawa Encounter

Aug 19, 2026·2 min read

A Lakewood Police investigation into the alleged fraudulent use of a stolen credit card led detectives to one suspect at a Wawa in Browns Mills, where they unexpectedly encountered a second man wanted in an unrelated Lakewood case, TLS has learned.

Capt. LeRoy Marshall says, that on Tuesday, August 18, Detective Meyer Jr. and Patrolman Amoroso went to the Wawa while investigating the alleged fraudulent use of a credit card that had been stolen during a vehicle burglary in Lakewood.

While there, they learned that the suspect they were looking for could still be in the area. Shortly afterward, Raymond L. Lawson, 59, of West Creek, was located and arrested.

Lawson was charged with fraudulent use of a credit card and released on a criminal complaint summons pending a future court appearance.

While confirming Lawson’s identity, Detective Meyer recognized another familiar face, Alexander Lowery, 59, of Lakewood.

Lowery was wanted in connection with an unrelated series of shoplifting incidents in Lakewood and also had an active warrant for his arrest.

Lowery was taken into custody, processed on the shoplifting charges and warrant, and later transported to the Ocean County Jail.

“Most people leave Wawa with coffee and a hoagie. Our officers left with two arrests. That’s what I would call a very productive trip,” Chief Meyer said.

The Pemberton Township Police Department assisted with both arrests.
