Report: Teaneck Bridal Jewish Shop Owner, Mother Held by ICE

Aug 19, 2026·2 min read

TEANECK, N.J. (VINnews) — Ari Ladino, a Jewish bridal shop owner in Teaneck, and his mother have been detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, according to The Jewish Link.

Ladino and his mother, who are originally from Bogotá, Colombia, run Luana Rose Modestly, a modest-fashion boutique on West Englewood Avenue that specializes in custom and semi-custom gowns for weddings and other special occasions.

The reason for their detention remains unclear.

Customers became concerned after they were unable to reach Ladino, including one woman whose daughter’s wedding dress was at the store with the wedding approaching.

Elie Y. Katz, the store’s landlord, went to the business with police and found packages accumulating outside the storefront. He helped customers retrieve completed dresses.

Katz later received a call from a detention facility and was able to speak briefly with Ladino, who authorized a relative to access the store and assist customers in retrieving their dresses.

Ladino also contacted a business associate and asked her to prepare the store’s inventory for a potential sale, with proceeds intended to help fund his legal defense, according to The Jewish Link.

Michael Wildes, managing partner of immigration law firm Wildes & Weinberg and a former federal prosecutor, said the case highlights the potential impact of immigration enforcement on families, businesses and local communities.

The circumstances surrounding the detentions, including the immigration allegations or proceedings involving Ladino and his mother, were not disclosed.

The case remains developing.
