TIBERIAS, Israel (VINnews) — A 24-year-old man from Beit Shemesh who had been missing for more than a week was found dead Thursday in a remote area of the Switzerland Forest near Tiberias, Israeli rescue officials said.
Katriel Nachman Keinan disappeared Aug. 10 after being seen near Gai Beach along the Sea of Galilee. He was reportedly traveling toward Safed when contact with him was lost.
Police and rescue teams conducted an extensive search and released details about Keinan in an effort to locate him. He was believed to have been wearing a white shirt, black suit and hat and carrying a black backpack and a dark brown tefillin bag.
ZAKA received a report Thursday afternoon about a body discovered in the forest. Northern District volunteers and other rescue personnel responded to the area, where the body was located in rugged terrain near a cliff.
Authorities subsequently identified the deceased as Keinan.
Rescuers faced difficult conditions as they worked to remove the body from the area. ZAKA officials said the recovery operation was being conducted together with other rescue forces.
The circumstances of Keinan’s death were not immediately released.
