Weather Alert: Heavy Rain Moves Across Rockland County With Flash Flooding Warnings and Strong Storm Threats
Yisroel R.
Heavy rain is currently moving across Rockland County Thursday afternoon, bringing periods of heavier downpours as officials warn of possible flash flooding and strong thunderstorms through the evening.
Rockland County Fire and Emergency Services is advising residents that heavy rainfall could lead to flooding, particularly in low-lying areas and locations with poor drainage.
The latest excessive rainfall outlook shows total rainfall of 1.5 to 2.5 inches, with locally higher amounts possible where heavier bands of rain develop.
Strong thunderstorms are also a threat, with damaging wind gusts possible as the storm system continues moving across the region.
Residents are urged to use extreme caution while traveling and to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rain where possible. Roads can become dangerous quickly, especially in low-lying and poor-drainage areas.
Drivers should never attempt to cross a flooded roadway and should turn around if water is covering the road. Residents are also advised to remain alert and continue monitoring local weather updates as conditions develop through the afternoon and evening.
