Toms River Man Accused Of Using Zelle To Steal From Clients After Being Fired

Aug 20, 2026·1 min read

A Toms River man was arrested after allegedly continuing to solicit payments from clients of a local business after he was fired, with the money being deposited into his personal bank account, authorities said.

Christopher T. Ross, 37, was taken into custody on August 15 and charged with two counts of third-degree theft by deception and one count of third-degree identity theft.

Detectives determined that Ross had been terminated from his position as a sales representative at a local business on February 9th. Following his termination, Ross allegedly continued contacting existing clients and soliciting direct payments through Zelle under the pretense of managing their accounts.

Subpoenas served on financial institutions confirmed that the fraudulent transfers were deposited directly into Ross’s personal bank account and used for personal expenses, police said.

Criminal warrants were issued for Ross on July 3rd, and he was subsequently entered into law enforcement databases as a wanted person.

Ross was taken into custody on August 15th and transported to Wall Township Police Department Headquarters for processing before being remanded to the Monmouth County Correctional Institution pending a court appearance.
