Turkish Justice Minister Akın Gürlek requested Friday that an Interpol “red notice” be issued against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and 35 other Israeli officials for genocide and crimes against humanity connected to the detention of Gaza flotilla activists.

An Interpol red notice is not an international arrest warrant but an international request for individual countries to carry out an arrest, leaving it to individual governments to decide whether to comply. The Interpol red notice request is in addition to the International Criminal Court’s arrest warrants for Netanyahu and other Israeli officials.

“The judicial process regarding the attack carried out against activists of the Global Freedom Flotilla, which set sail to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza, continues with determination,” Gürlek posted, adding that “prosecution is being conducted against 35 defendants, including Binyamin Netanyahu and Afek Moskovitch.”

Moskovitch was not identified by a title or position, and according to reporting by Ynet, some of the defendants’ names are misspelled or misidentified. Ynet also said that one of its former military correspondents appears on the list.

“We categorically reject the notion that the Netanyahu administration, which is implementing a genocide policy in Gaza, is untouchable and unaccountable,” Gürlek declared. “We will not allow the crimes committed in Gaza to be covered up or the perpetrators to be shielded by impunity. We will resolutely utilize all possibilities of national and international law.”

Turkey had already indicted all of these people over the detention of activists from the Global Sumud Flotilla, seeking combined sentences of 4,596 years.

Netanyahu fired back, slamming Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for his hypocrisy and antisemitism.

“Erdoğan is an antisemitic dictator who has massacred Kurds, harbors Hamas terrorists, occupies half of Cyprus, and jails record numbers of journalists and politicians who oppose him. He now seeks to extend his aggression against Israel into Syria. Israel will not tolerate it,” the Israeli premier posted on X.

“Erdoğan’s pathetic attempt to intimidate the leaders and soldiers of Israel, the only true democracy in the Middle East, will go nowhere,” he added.
