A frightening road rage incident in Lakewood involving a vehicle carrying Jewish teens and another vehicle carrying Hispanic teens escalated into a knife attack, a stolen vehicle and multiple arrests, sources tell Lakewood Alerts.

The incident began early Friday morning near FoodEx on Princeton Avenue, where the occupants of the second vehicle allegedly became involved in a confrontation with the Jewish teens. The suspects then reportedly called additional friends, and the Jewish teens were chased through Lakewood in an apparent road rage incident.

The confrontation came to a head near 10th Street and Clifton Avenue, where several individuals exited their vehicle and began screaming at the Jewish teens.

During the confrontation, one suspect allegedly pulled out a knife and began threatening one of the Jewish teens, swinging the weapon at him. In the chaos, the knife instead struck one of the suspect’s own friends, injuring him.

Meanwhile, another individual allegedly jumped into the vehicle belonging to the Jewish teens and drove off with it.

The stolen vehicle was subsequently recovered a short distance away.

Lakewood Police launched an intensive investigation, with numerous detectives working for hours to identify and apprehend those allegedly involved.

Multiple arrests were ultimately made.

Sources tell Lakewood Alerts that charges include aggravated assault and weapons possession in connection with the knife incident, while another suspect faces charges related to the theft of the vehicle.

Police said there was no reason to believe that this was an antisemitic incident.

The investigation remains ongoing.
