Central Elections Committee chairman Noam Sohlberg says Shin Bet chief David Zini has told the panel that the agency has no intelligence indicating any attempt to harm Gadi Eisenkot, the former minister and IDF chief whose Yashar party is ahead in most opinion polls before the October 27 election.

Sohlberg’s remarks follow a Channel 12 report from yesterday stating that Zini had rejected a request to assign an armed security detail to Eisenkot.

“The Shin Bet director says there is no intelligence on harm to Eisenkot — and he is the professional authority on this issue,” Sohlberg says, emphasizing that the Central Elections Committee is “not authorized” to intervene in the matter.

“If there are alerts on any kind of intention to harm the head of the Yashar party, the Shin Bet head will inform me,” he adds.
