An Orthodox Jewish family in South Florida reunited with the police commander whose heroic actions saved their one-year-old daughter from drowning.

Recently in Bay Harbor Islands, Police Commander Tomas Rego was off duty when he heard a woman screaming near a waterfront home. He rushed toward the commotion and found little Noa unconscious, without a pulse and not breathing after being pulled from a swimming pool.

The terrified mother repeatedly pleaded, “Don’t let my daughter die.”

Rego immediately began CPR. After only two rounds, Noa began vomiting and let out a cry, signaling that she was breathing again.

“It was a big miracle,” Noa’s mother, Tiffany Leaf, recalled. “When she said, ‘Mama,’ I knew she was going to be OK.”

Now two years old, Noa is healthy and thriving. Her grateful family remains close with Rego, regularly sending him photographs and considering him part of their lives.

Rego, who is also a CPR instructor, was presented with a life-saving award during a Bay Harbor Islands council meeting for the quick actions that saved the Orthodox Jewish toddler’s life.
