NEW YORK CITY (August 23, 2026)

The NYPD is investigating another unusual manhole incident in Manhattan after video surfaced showing three people climbing out of a sewer near Penn Station.

The footage, posted to TikTok Friday, appears to show three individuals wearing overalls and headlamps emerging from a manhole at 32nd Street and Seventh Avenue, near Madison Square Garden. According to the person who posted the video, the incident took place shortly after 4 a.m. on August 18.

Police confirmed they are aware of the footage but said no arrests have been made and the investigation remains ongoing.

The incident comes months after a series of similar videos sparked attention across New York City. In May, footage showed a group of seven men emerging from a Brooklyn manhole in the middle of the night. One video showed a man lifting the cover near McDonald Avenue and Bedford Avenue before the group climbed out and appeared to change clothes. Another video later showed several of the men emerging near Heyward Street and Bedford Avenue, with at least three carrying shovels.

A senior law enforcement official previously said investigators believed the men may have been searching the sewer system for valuables. Police ultimately determined that the incidents did not pose an immediate threat to the public and found no damage to the city’s sewer infrastructure.

In June, members of the NYPD Emergency Services Unit conducted a search of the sewer system as a precaution, but investigators found no evidence of anything suspicious or dangerous.

Authorities have not said whether the latest Manhattan incident is connected to the earlier cases.
