Lebanese sources in Beirut said strikes targeting residential buildings, infrastructure, and roads in the affected areas appear designed to establish a buffer zone and separate Hezbollah strongholds from surrounding areas. They said the activity could be part of preparations for a possible expansion of the fighting.

The reports come alongside accounts of increased Israeli ground activity. Lebanese news outlet Elnashra has also reported growing concern in Beirut that the situation could develop into a significant security escalation.

According to an analysis published by the outlet, Lebanese officials believe Israel’s upcoming election campaign may also be influencing recent military developments. Their assessment is that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu could take a more aggressive approach and intensify military operations in an effort to demonstrate security achievements to the Israeli public.
