QUEENS, NEW YORK (August 23, 2026)

The NYPD has released surveillance footage as part of its investigation into attacks that damaged two Jewish houses of worship in Queens last month.

Police are searching for two suspects accused of throwing bags containing motor oil at Young Israel of Jamaica Estates and Young Israel of Holliswood on July 16.

The vandalism resulted in property damage at both synagogues. The footage released Monday shows the incident at Young Israel of Jamaica Estates, and investigators are asking anyone who recognizes the individuals or has information about the attacks to contact police.

Rabbi Moshe Taub of Young Israel of Holliswood also criticized Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s response to crime. In comments to JNS, Taub argued that the mayor’s public statements would carry greater weight if he demonstrated the same willingness to personally engage with victims of crime as he has shown toward individuals accused of wrongdoing at Rikers Island.

R’ Taub said his congregation has faced additional disturbing vandalism, including an incident in which the synagogue was defaced with excrement.

The investigation remains ongoing, and police are urging anyone with information about the suspects or the attacks to come forward.

🚨WANTED FOR A CRIMINAL MISCHIEF PATTERN: The New York City Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the individuals depicted in the attached media, who are wanted in connection with two hate crime criminal mischief incidents that occurred within the confines of the 107 Precinct. Details are as follows:

Incident #1:
It was reported to police that on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at approximately 11:44 AM, two unknown individuals approached the rear of 83-10 188 Street and damaged property by throwing bags containing motor oil. The individuals fled the location on foot, then entered a dark-colored suburban and fled to unknown parts.

Incident #2:
It was reported to police that on Thursday, July 16, 2026, between the hours of 11:00 PM–6:20 AM, two unknown individuals approached the rear of 86-25 Francis Lewis Boulevard and damaged property by throwing bags containing motor oil. The individuals fled the location on foot to parts unknown.
