More than 130 Lakewood-area residents successfully filed for property tax relief during a special ANCHOR assistance event held Sunday at the Westwood office complex near the Lakewood-Toms River border.

The event brought New Jersey Department of the Treasury officials directly to the community, where they provided one-on-one assistance and helped residents complete applications for ANCHOR and related property tax relief programs, including Senior Freeze and Stay NJ.

Depending on eligibility, the programs can provide benefits of up to $700 for renters, up to $1,500 for homeowners age 64 and younger, and as much as $6,500 for eligible senior homeowners.

The filing event was hosted by C.A.R.E.S. and co-sponsored by Lakewood Township along with several business and nonprofit partners. Lakewood Mayor Ray Coles and Township Committeeman Meir Lichtenstein attended and thanked organizers and state officials for making the assistance easily accessible to local residents.

“Thank you to Lipa Klein and State Treasury Department officials for working together to make this event a great success,” Lichtenstein said. “Events such as these are uniquely effective in helping local residents understand and benefit from the government programs available to help them.”

C.A.R.E.S. Director Lipa Klein also thanked the Treasury Department, Lakewood Township and the event’s co-sponsors for helping local families access the financial relief programs.
