Ramapo Police Operations Captain Kevin Lee will retire at the end of August, concluding more than 34 years of service to the Town of Ramapo and the Ramapo Police Department.

Captain Lee began his career in August 1992 at the Rockland County Police Academy, where he served as class president and graduated as valedictorian. He went on to serve in nearly every area of the Ramapo Police Department, building decades of operational, administrative, and technical experience.

He began as a patrol officer before joining the Traffic Safety Unit. Lee was promoted to Sergeant in 2005 and later served as Communications Sergeant. He became a Lieutenant in 2016, serving as Special Services Lieutenant and Administrative Lieutenant before being promoted to Captain. He ultimately served as both Administrative Captain and Operations Captain.

throughout his career, Captain Lee also served as the department’s Accreditation Program Manager, helping ensure that the Ramapo Police Department maintained the professional standards required of a New York State accredited law enforcement agency. He became a longtime resource within the department for his knowledge of its operations, technology, policies, procedures, and history.

“There is no question that Kevin’s retirement will leave a void in our Department,” Ramapo Police Chief Daniel Hyman said. “For more than 34 years, he has been an indispensable part of this organization. We thank him not only for his service, but for his friendship, his leadership, and the legacy he leaves behind. We wish Kevin and his family a long, healthy and well-deserved retirement.”

Ramapo Supervisor Michael Specht also thanked Captain Lee for his decades of service, saying he demonstrated exemplary professionalism, leadership, and commitment to law enforcement throughout his career. Specht said Lee leaves “big shoes to fill” and wished him a long and happy retirement.
