
Major Fire Damages Mordy’s Shtiebel Near Lakewood-Jackson Border

LAKEWOOD, NEW JERSEY (August 23, 2026)
A large fire broke out early Tuesday morning at Mordy’s Shtiebel on Delaware Trail near the Lakewood-Jackson border, causing extensive damage to the shul, R”L.
The fire was reported shortly after 6:00 a.m., bringing a large response of firefighters and emergency personnel to the scene. Crews battled intense flames that had spread through portions of the building before finally getting the blaze under control at approximately 7:00 a.m.
The fire was in the main house of Mordy’s Shtiebel, the tents however remained up and running throughout the day as always.
In a major relief, B’chasdei Hashem, the Sifrei Torah inside the shul were safely recovered, and nobody was injured. Volunteers from Central Jersey Chaverim entered the building following the fire and were able to retrieve the Sifrei Torah, confirming that they were not damaged.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation as authorities work to determine what sparked the blaze. Besuros Tovos.
