A flood-prone stretch of Ackertown Road in Chestnut Ridge is finally getting a drainage upgrade, with crews now installing new storm drains and piping along the roadway.

For years, part of Ackertown Road had no storm drains at all, leaving heavy rain with nowhere to properly drain and repeatedly causing water to collect and flood the roadway.

The Town of Ramapo Highway Department has now stepped in, sending crews to install a new drainage system designed to carry stormwater away from the road and reduce the recurring flooding problem.

Work is currently underway, with the new drains and piping being installed along the affected stretch. Once completed, the project is expected to give the roadway far better protection during periods of heavy rain.

Village officials expressed their appreciation to the Town of Ramapo Highway Department and its crews for taking on the project, while thanking the village engineering team for their work in moving the drainage improvements forward.
