An 11-year-old girl was killed after the electric dirt bike she was riding on as a passenger collided with a pickup truck in Berkeley Township.

The crash occurred around 12:45 p.m. on August 26 near Moorage and Sherman avenues, according to Ocean County Prosecutor Brad Billhimer.

Authorities said an 11-year-old boy was operating the electric dirt bike with the girl as a passenger. The dirt bike failed to stop at a posted stop sign and entered the intersection with Moorage Avenue.

The dirt bike then struck the driver’s side door of a westbound Ford F-250 pickup truck, prosecutors said.

The boy was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, where he was treated for his injuries and released.

The girl was transported to Community Medical Center in Toms River, where she was pronounced dead from injuries sustained in the crash.

The driver of the Ford remained at the scene. He had a valid driver’s license and showed no signs of impairment, authorities said.
