The Lakewood Fire Department has announced the acquisition of a major new addition to its fleet – a brand-new 2026 Seagrave 75-foot AerialScope Tower Ladder.

The apparatus, which is a significant investment in Lakewood’s fire protection capabilities, was ordered in 2022 and arrived at the department this week.

The vehicle was first was ordered in 2022 and has been in the works for several years. Ahead of its delivery, a contingent of Lakewood Fire Department representatives traveled to Wisconsin to conduct a final inspection of the new apparatus and ensure that everything was in order before it made its way to Lakewood.

Chief of Department Jonathan Yahr and Board of Fire Commissioners Chairman Yakov Steinberg were on hand to accept the new truck and welcome it to the fleet.

The tower ladder was originally ordered with a price tag of approximately $1.6 million. However, supply chain issues during the manufacturing process increased the cost by roughly $200,000.

The new tower ladder will now head to a detail and upfit shop, where it will receive its department graphics and be outfitted with the necessary firefighting equipment.

Once the upfitting process is complete, the new truck will be placed into service, adding another important resource to the Lakewood Fire Department’s ability to respond to fires and other emergencies throughout the community.

In a statement, the department said it looks forward to putting the new truck into service and continuing to provide the best possible fire protection to Lakewood residents.
