In its continuous effort to improve local infrastructure and public safety, Lakewood
Township has completed two crucial infrastructure projects.

The key east-west artery of Pine Street – located near many residential neighborhoods
and office towers – saw New Jersey Natural Gas (NJNG) and New Jersey American
Water (NJAW) replace aged underground gas and water lines with new, higher capacity
infrastructure.

Subsequently, Pine Street was repaved and restriped between Route 9 and New Hampshire Avenue. The freshly paved road has brightly striped lanes; turning lanes; and crosswalks – plus a full added lane between Avenue of the States and Washington Avenue – in order to enhance traffic flow and safety.

Additionally, the extensive Arboretum Parkway project is now nearly complete, pending
some remaining landscaping touch ups. Work on the ground began in late 2025, stretching from 14th Steet through Teaberry Court.

The underground water drainage system along Arboretum Parkway was completely revamped, in order to increase its drainage capacity in rainy weather. The road was then freshly paved and striped; and the landscaping throughout the work area renewed.

A substantial amount of work on these projects was completed during the recent
summer weeks, when the traffic was light – and construction caused less disruption
than usual. During these weeks, substantial progress was also made on several other
major infrastructure projects throughout town – which are now closer to completion.

“Nobody likes road construction, but these utility and infrastructure upgrades are
precisely what Lakewood needs in the 21st century,” says Deputy Mayor Menashe
Miller. “I just wish that JCP&L would follow suit and upgrade their electrical infrastructure
as well, just as the other utility companies and Lakewood Township are doing.”
