I would like to propose an idea for improving school transportation while reducing traffic throughout our town.

Rather than having families pay transportation costs based on how far they live from the school, I believe every family in town could contribute a small, shared fee toward school busing. The cost would be spread among all families, regardless of where they live or whether they currently qualify for school transportation.

This approach makes sense because all residents pay property taxes to support our schools, regardless of whether their children are eligible for school transportation or whether they live close enough to walk to school. Since the community as a whole supports the school system through property taxes, transportation could similarly be treated as a shared community service.

The goal would be to make school transportation available to everyone while encouraging families to use the buses instead of driving their children to and from school or organizing carpools. With more students riding buses, we could reduce the number of cars on the roads during the busiest times of the day, helping to ease traffic congestion and make our streets safer.

Because the cost would be shared across the entire community, the individual fee could potentially be lower and more equitable than having families pay separately based on their location. At the same time, the entire town would benefit from fewer cars, less congestion, and a more efficient transportation system.

I hope the town and school district will consider this approach and explore whether a community-wide transportation fee could be a practical and fair solution for everyone.
